Back to School Information 2021-2022
Here are a few reminders and updates to help you prepare for the first day of school on August 19th.
Enrollment
Enrollment for new and returning students is open and must be completed prior to the first day of school. If you have not yet logged onto your Skyward account to begin the process, please do so. Enrollment instructions are available HERE. If you need any assistance with the enrollment process please reach out to your child’s school.
While last school year's remote learning model will not be offered, there will be a virtual learning option for students in grades K-12. USD 204 has partnered with a Kansas Education Service Center called Greenbush, which specializes in providing virtual learning. You can learn more about that program HERE.
Mask Update
UPDATE 8/17/21: The USD 204 Board of Education voted to review the current mask mandate at the meeting scheduled for September 20, 2021.
Superintendent Brungardt shared an update on masks via email on Wednesday, August 11th. The update included the following information:
On August 12th, 2021, USD 204 will enact a mask mandate that will include PreK-12 students, all district staff and all visitors to our school buildings. Masks must be worn while inside district facilities and when utilizing district transportation. USD 204 will also follow all KSHSAA protocols specific to competition.
We anticipate the mandate will be in place through October 4th. An update on COVID activity in our community will be provided at each Board of Education meeting; evaluation of this issue will be ongoing, and any changes to current policies will be communicated as quickly as possible.
It is also important to note that the district will be practicing other mitigation efforts (in addition to masking) such as physical distancing when possible, optional testing for students and staff, and consistent cleaning/sanitization of facilities.
Community Health Event & FREE School Supplies
In partnership with the Unified Government Public Health Department, USD 204 will host a community health fair on Monday, August 16th!
Students, families and community members are encouraged to attend. On-site Health Department staff will be offering COVID vaccines to all individuals 12 years of age and up. Each individual who gets vaccinated will receive a BRAVES spirit pack, food voucher and gift card (while supplies last). Click HERE for more details on the event.
The event, taking place at Edwardsville Elementary from 5-8 PM, will also be host to several local groups with giveaways and resources INCLUDING free school supplies for USD 204 students!

2021-2022 school supply lists are available for download on our website (HERE). Please note the high school does not generate a supply list as the necessary supplies vary by class. Students at BSHS will learn more about what may be needed at the start of the school year.

Food Service
USDA’s National School Lunch Program will once again offer a waiver to all Kansas districts allowing students the option of free breakfast and lunch each school day during the 2021-2022 school year. You can access meal menus throughout the school year via Nutrislice (HERE).
With this in mind, please note you will not need to add meal funds to your child’s account during the enrollment process unless you anticipate a la carte purchases.
While all children will be able to eat free during the school year, each district is still required to gather important information through the new Household Economic Survey (HES). This survey, taking place of the free/reduced meals application, generates additional funding for our local educational programs.
We are asking all families to consider, review, and complete the HES application through the enrollment process. Eligibility determination will be made according to the established guidelines, and if your family qualifies the district will still receive the funds accordingly. A few additional reasons for this consideration include:
- There are other school district benefits for families that qualify, such as a school fee waiver to eliminate textbook and technology fees.
- If families do not complete the application, State funding for our school district may be reduced. This funding is crucial to the day-to-day operations of our school district.
